Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has initiated a new chapter in the party’s election campaign, gearing up for the crucial elections slated for February 8, 2024.
Sharif’s directive came during a pivotal meeting at the PML-N’s central secretariat in Lahore, where he was warmly welcomed by party president Shehbaz Sharif, Senior Vice-President Maryam Nawaz, and other key leaders.
Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, PML-N Election Cell Chairman Senator Ishaq Dar, and Central Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb were also present at the meeting. The discussions delved into the future political strategies of the party and the prevailing political landscape in Pakistan.
Nawaz Sharif, addressing the meeting, outlined the party’s commitment to resuming the developmental journey from where it left off, underscoring the party’s vision for progress and prosperity in the nation.
This significant meeting marked Nawaz Sharif’s first appearance at the central secretariat since his return to Pakistan on October 21 after a self-imposed exile in London lasting four years. The event sent a strong message about PML-N’s determination and preparedness for the upcoming electoral battle.
Following the closed-door deliberations, Khawaja Muhammad Asif addressed the media during a press conference, confirming Nawaz Sharif’s active participation in the upcoming elections.
Addressing concerns raised by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) about a level playing field, Asif asserted, “Everyone has a level playing field; there is no unfairness.”
The political landscape in Pakistan has witnessed escalating tensions as the election date draws nearer. The rift between former allies, PML-N and PPP, has deepened, with the latter persistently voicing concerns regarding equal opportunities ahead of the polls.
In a significant move, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued orders for the government to ensure the conduct of general elections on February 8.
The directive came during the hearing of multiple pleas seeking timely elections within 90 days of the dissolution of the assemblies.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also issued a notification confirming the election date, with no objections raised by any political party.
