Gunmen kill 115 people in Moscow’s Concert Hall

Islamic State claimed responsibility

Multiple gunmen unleashed a devastating attack at a popular concert venue on the outskirts of Moscow on Friday night, resulting in a staggering toll of around 115 fatalities and over 100 injuries, the foreign media has reported.

This brutal assault marks the deadliest incident in the capital region in over a decade.

The assailants, reportedly numbering up to five, opened fires indiscriminately on the attendees.

In the aftermath, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the heinous act through an affiliated news agency.

Eyewitness accounts and verified social media footage depicted the harrowing scenes inside the complex, showing people fleeing in panic amidst the sounds of gunfire.

The toll on human life was evident, with bloodied victims strewn on the floor and bodies lined up outside the building.

Emergency services swiftly responded, with helicopters dispatched to evacuate individuals from the blazing structure.

The scale of the tragedy became apparent as the Russian Minister of Health, Mikhail Murashko, confirmed over 115 people hospitalized, including five children and 60 adults in serious condition.

In the wake of the attack, global leaders expressed solidarity and condemnation. However, amidst the grief and shock, speculation arose regarding the motives and coordination of the assault.

While the Russian leadership remained silent, aside from a statement expressing hopes for the victims’ recovery, law enforcement agencies swiftly launched probes into the incident. The Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case, and a special police unit was deployed to the site for further investigation.

This tragic event, occurring on the same day as a significant escalation of hostilities in Ukraine, underscores the volatility of the region. The concert, scheduled to feature the veteran rock band Piknik, was poised to draw a full house to the 6,200-seat venue.

The attack at Crocus City Hall joins a grim list of violent incidents in Russia’s recent history, further emphasizing the ongoing threat posed by terrorism. Despite the nation’s strict firearm regulations, such acts of violence continue to inflict profound sorrow and anguish on communities across the country.
