She wishes Malik well for his new journey

Tennis star Sania Mirza from India on Sunday confirmed her divorce with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, a day after the latter announced his marriage with Pakistani actor Sana Javed .

According to a statement issued by her family, Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik have been divorced for a few months now.

“Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead!” read a statement posted by Mirza’s father Imran,” said a news statement.

She added that “at this sensitive period of her life, we would also like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy.”

A day earlier, father of Sania Mirza told the Indian media that her daughter chose to seek Khula from Shoaib Malik. Khula is a right of Muslim woman for getting separation from her husband.

Speculations about the romance between Malik and Javed first gained momentum after the duo was spotted together on Fahad Mustafa’s popular show, “Jeeto Pakistan.”

It is worth noting that Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza, the sports power couple, had exchanged vows in April 2010, with grand wedding ceremonies held on both sides of the border in Pakistan and India.

The union bore fruit with the birth of their first child in 2018, creating a picture-perfect family for the cricket and tennis aficionados.

Prior to his marriage with Mirza, Malik had been entangled in an eight-year marital alliance with Ayesha Siddiqui. The duo parted ways in 2010, clearing the path for Malik’s subsequent union with the Indian tennis sensation.

On the other hand, Sana Javed, celebrated for her stellar performance in the drama series “Ruswai,” had previously exchanged vows with singer Umair Jaswal in 2020.
