High level wheeling-dealing in Lahore likely to breed PDM 2.0

Lahore—the hub of politics witnessed a high-level wheeling and dealing the whole day begun with the arrival of the MQM-Pakistan’s delegation led by Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Sadiqqui in the city to meet the PML-N leadership.

The day concludes with the meeting between PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is indicating that the PDM 2.0 is in the offing and a similar sort of alliance will again rule the country.

Interestingly, the PTI has also announced its intention earlier in the day to sit in the house as a strong and unified opposition with alliance of its independent candidates and any political party other than Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

A joint statement is issued by PMLN and PPP that grabbed 75 and 54 seats in the National Assembly, respectively.

The statement highlighted “in principle” agreement for political cooperation between the two parties that expressed their commitment to collaborate for political stability, with the PPP promising to present PML-N’s proposals to its Central Executive Committee on Monday.

An interesting statement from PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal completely aligned with the rare political comment of the Army Chief of Pakistan indicates that the civil-military leadership is on the same page.

According to Ahsan, it is “time for healing the wounds of polarization and developing a consensus on the future economic agenda and reforms has started.”

A day ago, the Army Chief congratulated the nation on the elections and spoke for “stable hands and a healing touch to move on from the politics of anarchy and polarisation”.

The nation seriously wants end to the political and economic crises that is reflected by the high-level participation of masses close to 50 per cent in the General Election 2024.

It is high time for all the political forces to sit together and make a unified government to steer the country out of two-faced political and economic instability.

Let the masses rule before it is too late and the hard-earned democracy against a setback which takes a decade to take its roots back in a country where it has a very short span of time so far.
