Blast sparks fire on Quetta’s Moti Ram Road, injures two

Cause of blast yet to be ascertained

A sudden explosion rocked Quetta’s Moti Ram Road on Thursday, resulting in injuries to at least two individuals, according to reports from local police and rescue officials.
In the aftermath of the explosion, a fire engulfed a shop in the vicinity, prompting the dispatch of firefighters to the scene, as confirmed by rescue personnel. The nature of the blast remains under investigation, with authorities working to ascertain its cause.
Two adjacent shops bore the brunt of the explosion, leading to the collapse of their roofs. Swift action by responders managed to contain the fire that erupted in another affected shop.
Arsalan, a shopkeeper, and his assistant Nazir Ahmed sustained injuries from the blast and were expeditiously transferred to the trauma center at Quetta’s Civil Hospital.
Regrettably, one of the injured victims is reported to be in critical condition, indicating the severity of the incident.
Authorities have summoned the expertise of the bomb disposal squad to delve into the origins and characteristics of the explosion, in a bid to shed light on the situation.
Mir Quddus Bizenjo, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, condemned the blast, asserting that the intent of anti-state elements was to instigate fear within the population in the lead-up to Independence Day on August 14. He noted that the month of August had witnessed an unfortunate surge in terrorist activities over the past few years.
Bizenjo underscored the necessity for robust security measures to counteract the persistent threat of terrorism. In recent years, Balochistan has been grappling with recurring security challenges, underscoring the need for proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the province’s residents.
