Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Thursday said that the three-time prime minister Nawaz Shairf would return to Pakistan next month to lead his party’s election campaign and face his pending legal cases in court.
Shehbaz Sharif made this statement during an interview with a private television channel, outlining the upcoming political developments and strategies of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ahead of the next election.
Shehbaz Sharif revealed that after the formation of the caretaker government, he intends to travel to London to discuss Nawaz Sharif’s return plan. If the PML-N secures victory in the upcoming elections, Nawaz Sharif is expected to assume the position of prime minister for the fourth time.
The Prime Minister also disclosed that the President had recently signed the advice to dissolve the National Assembly. He added that he had engaged with coalition partners to deliberate on the appointment of a caretaker prime minister.
The decision in this regard is anticipated within the next three days.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed optimism about finalizing the name of the caretaker prime minister and mentioned that he would consult both allied parties and Nawaz Sharif on this matter.
Emphasizing his commitment to democratic processes, he reiterated that he would hand over the reins of government to the caretaker setup, while the Election Commission would determine the date for the new elections.
The Council of Common Interests (CCI) has already endorsed a new digital census, setting the stage for the upcoming election to be conducted based on this updated demographic data.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the adherence to constitutional procedures and the responsibility of institutions to facilitate the electoral process.
Reflecting on his tenure, Shehbaz Sharif noted that his coalition government, comprising parties with diverse ideologies, effectively managed the country for a short span of 16 months. He emphasized the unity of the coalition parties in the best interests of the nation, particularly during challenging times such as natural disasters.
