Maulana Fazlur Rehman meets Hamas leadership amid ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza

Meeting took place in Qatar

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman met with the leadership of Palestinian resistance group Hamas in Qatar on Sunday.

The meeting took place amidst the continuing Israeli onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip.

Fazlur Rehman expressed unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine during his discussions with Hamas’s Qatar-based leader, Ismail Haniyeh, and former chief, Khaled Mashal.

Fazlur Rehman, a senior Pakistani politician, is currently in Qatar, where he aims to engage with leaders from the Arab world to explore avenues for providing aid to Gaza, which is grappling with a dire humanitarian crisis due to the relentless Israeli bombing campaign.

During their meeting, Haniyeh urged Muslims worldwide to unite against Israeli aggression, emphasizing the collective responsibility of the Muslim Ummah to stand up against the atrocities committed by Israel.

Meanwhile, Mashal underscored the alarming atrocities in both Kashmir and Palestine, condemning the hypocrisy of so-called human rights advocates.

Echoing the sentiments expressed by Hamas’s leadership, Maulana Fazlur Rehman denounced the developed nations for the innocent lives lost, especially women and children, holding them accountable for the ongoing crisis.

The conflict in the region shows no signs of abating, with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leading the offensive.

Israeli forces have intensified their ground operations and bombardment in Gaza over the past four weeks, resulting in the tragic loss of thousands of Palestinian lives, including numerous children.

According to reports from the health ministry in the Gaza Strip, the conflict, which erupted on October 7, has resulted in a devastating toll, with at least 9,770 people, including 4,800 children, losing their lives. Israeli officials have claimed that over 1,400 people, primarily civilians, were killed in Hamas attacks since the conflict’s onset.

Israel has faced international condemnation for its attacks on civilians, with accusations that it is using civilians as shields. Several countries, including Turkey, have severed diplomatic ties with Israel in response to the ongoing crisis.

Global powers, including the United States and the United Nations, have called for an immediate ceasefire, urging Israel to avoid civilian casualties and allow aid to flow into the war-torn region. Despite international pleas, Prime Minister Netanyahu has adamantly refused to halt the assault, vowing to continue the offensive against the Hamas-run enclave.
