PM inaugurates the Miyawaki forest

On Monday, the 9th of August 2021, While inaugurating the Miyawaki urban forest at Saggian Lahore, Sheikhupura, Punjab. Prime Minister Imran Khan said Pakistan has given more than its ability to check global warming so that the future generations would know that Pakistan’s Tahreek-e-Insaf government has left a better country for the people than what they had acquired.

Prime Imran said that the Miyawaki urban forest at Saggian is a part of the monsoon drive in the country under the campaign of “10 Billion Tree Tsunami.”

The forest has been expanded over 1000 canals and carries somewhere in the range of 165,000 plants. According to Miyawaki’s unique concept, the forest has the ability to grow 10 times faster than a normal forest.

The Prime Minister also conducted separate meetings with the Governor of Punjab, Chaudhry Sarwar, and The Chief Minister of Punjab, Usman Buzdar at Governor House and discussed the law and order, controlling hoarding disorder administrative matters, and the ongoing progressed projects in Punjab.

PM said, only 640 million trees have been planted in Pakistan in 2013.  While from 2013 to 2018 khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone has planted nearly a billion trees. He said, Now the government’s objective is to plant billion of trees over the country. Khan added that the Miyawaki forest takes in carbon emissions and preserves the environment. He encouraged the nation, especially the youth to plant more trees and protect them for a better environment in Pakistan.

The forest is named after Professor Akira Miyawaki, who was a Japanese botanist and expert in plant ecology. He died last month at the age of 93. PM Khan said that according to a report published by the leading researchers had discovered that people had vandalized the World’s environment. He added people all over the world are now struggling to preserve the environment by rearing and planting trees.

The Authority Director General of  Parks and Horticulture Jawad Qureshi informed the Prime Minister about the Miyawaki forest claiming that it would sink carbon and function as lungs for Lahore except restoring the status of the provincial capital as the city of gardens.
