Letter to be written to IMF against ‘stolen mandate’: Senator Ali Zafar

Letter will be from Imran Khan

PTI Senator Ali Zafar on Thursday said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would be reached out to inform about the mandate allegedly stolen from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during the general election 2024.

He told the media that the decision was conveyed to him by Imran Khan during his meeting at Adiala Jail. “A letter will be issued from him (Imran Khan) to the International Monetary Fund.”

Zafar emphasized the importance of good governance as a prerequisite outlined in the charters of the IMF, the European Union, and other international organizations for working in or providing loans to a country.

Zafar underscored that democracy played a pivotal role in ensuring good governance, stating that the alleged theft of the people’s mandate during the February 8 polls raised serious concerns.

He expressed the view that if elections were not conducted fairly, organizations such as the IMF would be hesitant to extend financial assistance.

The PTI Senator emphasized the party’s call for an audit of the election results, revealing that this condition would be presented to the IMF.

Meanwhile, Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, spoke to the media outside Adiala district jail, saying the PTI would consider talks with other parties if the alleged “stolen seats” were returned.

She questioned the feasibility of forming a government with the PPP, highlighting the need for the return of contested seats as a precondition for any discussions.

Aleema accused the PML-N, PPP, and MQM-P of wrongfully securing multiple National Assembly seats and urged them to rectify the alleged discrepancies.
