Noor Mukadam was the 27-year-old daughter of a former Ambassador to Pakistan who served in South Korea and Kazakhstan. Her gruesome murder led to a nationwide campaign demanding Justice for Noor, becoming the number one trend in the entire country.
Her body was found on the 20th of July on the eve of Eid in F-7 Islamabad. She was murdered at the home of a famous businessman named Zakir Jaffer by his son Zahir Jaffer. The Jaffer family operates a construction company under the name of Jaffer Group of companies.
A timeline of the torturous turnout of events is as follows:
July 7th
Zahir books a one-way ticket to the US for the early morning of the 19th of July.
July 18th
Noor receives a call from Zahir and leaves for his house at 9:05 PM. At 10 PM, Zahir contacts his travel agent inquiring what would happen if he was unable to travel tonight. He then agreed to travel.
At 11 PM the Taxi arrived and called him twice but was told to wait both times.
July 19th
At 12 Zahir asked the taxi driver to leave as he plans not to travel anymore but tips him a 1000 PKR. On which the driver says that if Zahir still wants to travel he can come back to pick him up. The taxi returns at 2 AM after Zahir has asked him to come to pick him up.
At 2:15 Zahir comes out of the house with a barefooted Noor. They both sit in the taxi and head to the airport. The driver notes that Noor hasn’t spoken a word while Zahir does talk from time to time.
Zahir then asks the driver to turn around as it is already too late for him to take the flight and that won’t make it on time. The taxi reaches Zahir’s house at 2:35 AM.
17 hours later at 11 PM, Police’s preliminary findings hint towards a fight between Zahir and Noor after she receives a series of texts from her parents.
July 20th – The day of the Murder and Arrest
From midnight to 6 in the morning, both of Noors parents tried to get in contact with her through texts and voice messages, they even contacted friends to know her whereabouts.
At 10:43, Noor managed to send her final voice message to her mother which has not been revealed yet. It is expected that Zahir had forcefully taken her phone away from her. Soon after she sends the messages, Zahir calls Noor’s mother three times, he is reported to speak to her for 20 minutes convincing her that Noor is not with him.
From 11 am to 7:30 pm, Noor is held captive by Zahir. During this time, he is in constant contact with his parents, he called his father 5 times during the whole ordeal.
At 7:10 pm, it is reported that Noor jumped off the balcony and made a run towards the door. Zahir quickly caught up to her and locked her in the guard’s room, snatched her phone, and then dragged her up to the room again. It is then reported that Noor was tortured and murdered after this encounter. An autopsy was required to pinpoint the exact time of her death.
At 7:29 pm Zahir calls his father one last time. He then calls his father’s friend and asks him to come over, using the excuse that robbers have infiltrated the house and he is all alone. The friend then contacts Zahir’s father, Zakir, questioning the fact that Zahir had never contacted him before and he feels there is something wrong.
Zakir, upon realizing the gravity of the situation, calls Dr. Tahir from Therapy works. Therapy Works is an organization that had been treating Zahir for a while and was in close links with the Jaffer family. Zakir asked Dr. Tahir to head to his house as he believed “Zahir was soliciting a girl”.
Confused with the statement Dr. Tahir took a team with him and headed to the Jaffer residences. Meanwhile, Zahir was constantly asking friends to come over one way or another by either telling them that there were robbers in the house or he was attacked.
The Therapy Works team entered his room forcefully, the team saw Zahir fiddling with noor’s head while her body laid senseless on one corner of the room. A member was attacked by Zahir and the team was then forced to tie him up until police arrived.
Zahir was arrested around 8 pm on the 20th of July.
July 24th
2 servants and Zahir’s parents are arrested as complicit in Zahir’s crimes.
July 27th
The servants and parents have been shifted to Jail. Their bail hearing is on the 30th of July
Zahir’s physical remand has been extended as police continue the investigation.
July 31st
The date for the bail hearing has been moved to the 4th of august. Zahir’s remand has been extended once again in hopes of finding more evidence.
August 2nd
Zahir has been shifted to Jail.
August 4th
The court rejects bail for his parents as they were in constant contact with Zahir throughout and called a rehabilitation center instead of police, in an effort of trying to conceal the actions committed by their son.
