Nawaz, Shujaat hold strategic meeting amidst speculation

No alliances on the cards

Leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)—Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif paid a visit to their long-time political adversary and chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain at his Lahore residence on Wednesday.

The visit follows recent speculation regarding possible alliances between the two adversaries.

The option of a possible merger between PML-Q and PML-N might be on the table, but the official sources plainly refuted such reports indicating towards possible seat adjustments between the two parties.

According to the PML-N official account, the important meeting between Nawaz Sharif and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain took place today.

Since Nawaz’s return to the country after self exile on October 21, it was their first ever meeting.

Notably, the official statement released by PML-N via its platform on X made no explicit mention of any alliance or merger.

The meeting saw the participation of several key leaders from both parties. Alongside Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N leaders in attendance included Maryam Nawaz Sanaullah, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Azam Nazir Tarar, and Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Representing PML-Q were Tariq Bashir Cheema, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Jafar Khan Mandokhel, and other prominent party figures.

Nawaz Sharif, since his return, has been actively engaging with various leaders exploring possibilities for alliances in the run-up to the general elections scheduled for February 8.
