Sindh CM orders inquiry into 6-storey building inferno

3 died in incident

Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar on Wednesday promptly took notice of an inferno in a six-storey building in Karachi’s FB Area near Ayesha Manzil that left three people dead.

The inferno, which originated from a short circuit in a single shop at the Ayesha Manzil furniture market, swiftly engulfed the entire complex, comprising 250 shops and 450 residential apartments.

According to the office of caretaker CM, an inquiry has been ordered into the incident’s root cause. A committee, led by Karachi commissioner, has been formed to investigate, with a three-day deadline to submit its findings.

A statement from the Governor’s House highlighted Tessori’s concern for the incident and urged the utilization of all available resources to manage the situation effectively.

Maximum people have been evacuated. The fire extinguishing operation is still underway, said a rescue official.

The fire is of the third category, which has engulfed the entire building.” Despite the partial containment of the fire, concerns lingered regarding a potential building collapse due to its high intensity.

Upon reaching the site, Mayor Wahab expressed sorrow over the loss of three lives, emphasizing the initiation of a thorough investigation to unveil the circumstances leading to the catastrophic blaze. Over 300 individuals were successfully evacuated, and a search operation persisted at the incident site.

Regrettably, this incident follows another massive fire that occurred less than two weeks prior, where a shopping mall on Rashid Minhas Road experienced a similar fate, claiming 11 lives and injuring several others on November 25.
