PML-N huddle for Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan in October

Nawaz to lead election campaign

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leadership had a huddle in London on Friday in which a unanimous decision was taken on return of the party’s supremo Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan in October to lead election campaign.
Former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed the news to the reporters in London outside of Stanhope House.
“We, after consultations with the senior leadership of the party, have decided that our quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan in October,” he said in a media talk.
He was flanked by Nawaz Sharif.
This is not the first time that the PML-N leaders claimed that their leader was returning to Pakistan soon.
Shehbaz Sharif, in an interview, had said Nawaz would return in September. He did not give any specific date of October this time too.
However, the party on its social media page reposted a post of one of its social media teams that entailed media reports confirming the party’s supremo return to Pakistan on October 15.
Today, Shehbaz reiterated that Nawaz Sharif’s name was listed in the Panama Papers under a conspiracy.
Shehbaz alleged that while his brother faced scrutiny, no action was taken against individuals whose names were originally present in the Panama Papers.
Shehbaz Sharif stated, “Nawaz Sharif will, god willing, come to Pakistan and face the law, there are no two opinions on it.”
Responding to a query about potential accountability for current and former judges, he emphasized the necessity of transparent accountability across the board for the progress of Pakistan.
Regarding the dissolution of assemblies, Shehbaz asserted that his party followed the “spirit of the Constitution.”
He highlighted that after dissolving the assemblies, the responsibility to hold elections lay with the chief election commissioner.
He confirmed that PML-N had met with the Election Commission of Pakistan and pledged full cooperation to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
Shehbaz decried what he called “fake cases” against him and his brother during the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
He pointed out that their exoneration by the courts vindicated them from political victimization.
Shehbaz stated that Nawaz Sharif would return to Pakistan in October to lead the election campaign.
Shehbaz Sharif arrived at Heathrow earlier in the week to confer with his elder brother about key political developments in the lead-up to the general election.

Nawaz Sharif left Pakistan in November 2019 for medical treatment after his conviction in a corruption case. Since then, he has not returned and faces multiple cases in the country.
