Govt officials warned of mobile hacking

Officials asked to remain vigilant

The government has issued a warning to its officials regarding potential hacking attempts aimed at extracting “sensitive information” from their mobile phones.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) released a statement on Friday, revealing that security agencies had uncovered a concerted effort to breach the mobile devices of high-ranking government officials, all in an effort to access confidential data.
The statement from the PMO indicated that the individuals orchestrating these attempts had employed phishing tactics, masquerading as senior government figures to carry out their nefarious activities.
The impersonators, operating under the guise of senior government officials, launched these intrusive efforts with the intention of procuring sensitive information from both state officials and the broader bureaucracy.
The tactics employed involved the distribution of mobile-hacking links through the popular messaging platform WhatsApp. By leveraging such tactics, the perpetrators sought to exploit potential vulnerabilities and gain unauthorized access to valuable data.
To counteract this threat, the government has issued a directive to all state officials, urging them to maintain a high level of vigilance and to promptly disregard any suspicious messages or communication. Additionally, officials have been instructed to immediately notify the Cabinet Division should they receive any such messages, ensuring swift and coordinated action.
The PMO’s statement highlighted the proactive stance of Pakistan’s security agencies in addressing this matter, emphasizing their heightened state of alertness and readiness to counter potential cyber threats.
