Three FBR Officials Have Been Suspended On Suspicion Of Corruption

On Thursday, the Federal Board of Revenue suspended three officials, including two inspectors and one supervisor, on corruption charges.

FBR’s top management had received credible information based on audio-visual proof against officials holding public office charged with their involvement in undesirable practices:

  • Imran Fareed, Inspector (BS-16).
  • Muhammad Saeed Sabir, Inspector (BS-16).
  • Nasir Zaman Raika, superintendent (BS-16).

The competent authority ordered an investigation into the accused officers, who were assigned to the collectorate of customs enforcement in Lahore. The evidence was determined to be reliable enough to proceed against the accused officials after an initial investigation. As a result, the competent authority has suspended the officials, initially for a term of 120 days, using the powers given under rule 5(1) of the public employees (efficiency and discipline) rules 2020.

The accused officials have been ordered to face regular charges.

Chairman of the FBR, Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed, has stated that the FBR will continue to deal harshly with any black sheep within the institution to ensure:

  • Transparency.
  • Ease of doing business.
  • Thereby bridging the trust deficit between FBR and taxpayers.

He further stated that no one involved in any type of corruption, extortion, or highhandedness will be spared and that those who bring a poor name to the country’s top revenue collection agency will be prosecuted without fail.
