Flight And Train Operations Have Been Hampered As Smog Takes Over Punjab

Smog continued to blanket the central and southern areas of Punjab on Friday, causing flight and train operations to be disrupted in some province cities.

Due to the critical smog situation, several flights from Lahore and Sialkot airports were delayed. Four flights bound for Lahore were rerouted to Islamabad.

According to the publication, the schedules of trains from Karachi and Quetta were also impacted.

Meanwhile, several highways were closed to traffic due to reports of multiple traffic accidents:

  • M2 from Bhera. 
  • M4 from Shershah to Shamkot.
  • M5 from the Jalalpur interchange to Shershah.
  • From Rohri to Guddu.

The highway patrol has advised citizens to drive safely and avoid unnecessary travel.

A road accident in Bahawalpur killed three people and injured another, while a car plunged into a river in Gujranwala killed two more and injured seven.

For a long time, Lahore has been ranked as one of the most polluted cities in the world by the Air Quality Index.
