The first round of negotiations between Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman, leader of the ‘Gwadar Ko Haq Do Tehreek,’ were fruitful.
For more than a month, the people of Gwadar have been staging a stunning protest, the photographs of which have gone global. The movement is fighting for the rights of Balochistan’s long-disenfranchised population, including fishermen, laborers, and students.
Tens of thousands of them marched across the capital last week, screaming anti-government chants, drawing Prime Minister Imran Khan’s attention.
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, on the other hand, preferred to focus on illegal trawler fishing, tweeting that “severe action” would be done and that he would speak with Balochistan’s chief minister about it.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also made a tweet on the same matter.
The first round of talks between the government and the protestors has already been completed, and the majority of the demands have been met, including those listed below.
- An end to illegal trawlers.
- Closure of wine shops in Gwadar.
- Freedom for fishermen to go to sea.
- Removal of unnecessary checkpoints on major roads.
The second round of discussions will take place today, Thursday, following which the CM will address the sit-in and explain whether or not there has been any progress.
