Indian troops snatched the mortal remains of Ali Geelani

Pakistan observed a day of official mourning as the national flag flew at half-mast due to the passing away of the Kashmiri leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The foreign office condemned the barbaric attitude of snatching the remains of Ali Geelani by the Indian Occupied forces.

Pakistan has stated that it will continue to provide all feasible assistance to the Kashmiri people until their rightful right to self-determination is realized, as embodied in relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Pakistan has urged the world community to take notice of the unprecedented and heinous situation and hold India accountable for violations of international human rights and humanitarian law.

As the family was preparing for Syed Ali Geelani’s burial, a large detachment of occupation soldiers entered his home in Srinagar, harassed the family members, and stole Syed Geelani’s body. When family members of Ali Geelani told the raiding party that they would bury him in the “Martyr’s Cemetery” in Srinagar as stated in Geelani’s will, however, they replied that India would not permit Syed Ali Geelani to be buried there.

The Foreign Office said, “It is deeply regrettable that he was not allowed to be buried in accordance with his will, and the wishes of his family members. This shows the highest degree of callousness on part of the occupation forces in complete disregard of civil and human values.”

Additionally, Foreign Office added that the Indian Government is so terrified of Syed Ali Geelani and what he stood for that after his death they are now acting in an inhumane way. This reveals the degree of insanity of the occupying army and clearly proves that India is going to foil all civic and human values in continuing its unlawful occupation of IIOJ&K.

Indian authorities did not allow the burial of Ali Geelani as per his will and feared resistance from the people of IIOJK. A curfew has been imposed throughout the valley, and all internet services have been disconnected. Ali Geelani was buried in Haiderpora, Srinagar in the night-time which is a few meters away from his house

A limited group of people, mostly close relatives, were able to participate in the funeral prayer and catch a last look at Geelani. The Indian army had imposed restrictions across the occupied valley to prevent a massive turnout for Geelani’s funeral.
