What is happening in Afghanistan?

The Prime Minister’s office announced on the 15th of August that Tayyip Erdogan called the premiere of Pakistan to discuss the quickly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. The Prime Minister assured that Pakistan was helping in the evacuation process of Diplomatic personnel and international organizations in Kabul. Pakistan embassy in Kabul was also making sure that there was swift access to PIA flights for all Pakistani nationals stuck in Afghanistan.

On the Eve of the 15th of August, the capital of Afghanistan fell into the hands of the Taliban as Ashraf Ghani and his supporters fled the country. Taliban stated on several occasions that they wanted a government that would benefit both the parties but Ghani’s abrupt escape made it harder and they assumed full control over the last stronghold of the Afghan government.

The last time the Taliban was in power was in 2001, and the world remembers the horrors of how they forcefully implemented Islamic laws on civilians. There was bloodshed all over the country and soon international powers started interfering which gave rise to the, now fallen, corrupt leaders of Afghanistan.

Reports and on-ground videos display civilians running towards Kabul airport on a daily to escape what is yet to befall Afghanistan. Some even spent the night under airplanes that might never take off. Embassies and International organizations are trying to evacuate their own citizens as soon as they can. Life under the Taliban is what the world was trying to save Afghans from but Biden’s failure to acknowledge the consequences of his exit might have been the final nail in the Afghan government’s demise.
