Pakistan sets New Guinness World Record of planting 50,000 saplings

On Thursday, 12 August 2021, SAPM (Special Assistant to Prime Minister) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam conducted an event in Gujranwala to set a new Guinness World Record of planting more than 50,000 plants in one minute.

While talking about the event, the minister said that it was a prestige for the nation to take the lead towards the Third Agricultural Revolution. He added that over 52,000 plants have been planted in the presence of the Guinness World Records representatives. He also challenged the bordering countries if they could knock off Pakistan.

Previously, India had the world record of planting 37,000 plants in one minute. And in 2015, Bhutan had set the Guinness World Record by planting 49,672 plants in less than one minute.

As per the report, more than 12,500 students in Gujranwala were part of planting the highest saplings in one minute. After the hooters were played, the students planted more than 52,000 plants on an area between Rawalpindi and Chand Ka Qila bypass. Around 47 drone cameras were recording the event.

Minister Aslam said that the Parks and Horticulture Authority would take care of the plants until the plants grow into trees.

He said that Gujranwala’s people have given a gift to the nation on the 74th Independence Day. He also said that 14th august should be celebrated as Green Pakistan Day and everyone should plant a tree on 14th August.

Mr. Amin Aslam said that Pakistan has taken the lead in planting trees over the world, while Gujranwala has taken the lead country-wide. He also said that recently Prime Minister has inaugurated the world’s largest urban forest ‘ Miyawaki’ in Lahore. It would help against environmental degradation.

The Special Assistant to Prime Minister said planting trees is the Sunnah of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and Pakistan is one of the countries that have been affected badly by climate change.

He added that these plants would not only help against global warming but also win against the ignorance of the political rivals who asserted that the Clean and Green Pakistan drive would invite wild animals to the city.

Referring to Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) government who had ruled for 10 years in Punjab, Mr. Amin Aslam said that the political party allowed 70 percent of the green cover of Lahore to be destroyed in only 10 years. He added that once the ancient city was known as the “City of Gardens” in the world.

The Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) also planted a tree along with the Federal Parliamentary Secretary on Climate Change Rukhsana Naveed, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Sohail Khwaja Commissioner Gujranwala Division Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman, Chairman PHA Gujranwala SA Hameed, and  Coordinator Punjab Clean and Green Program Amir Majeed.
