Nazia Hassan, a legend of Pakistan and known as the Queen of Pop across South Asia, passed away 21 years ago on the 13th of August, after fighting a long battle with cancer. She was 35 years old at the time and had been residing in the UK, where she was receiving medical treatment as well.
During an interview with a private channel, Nazia Hassan’s brother, Zohaib Hassan talked about his sister’s demise, claiming that her ‘ex-husband’ Ishtiaq Baig had poisoned her which had eventually led to her death. He claimed that not only had Nazia Hassan been a victim of arsenic poisoning by Baig but also that Baig had been illegally detaining Nazia. He stated that Nazia had in fact informed Scotland Yard about the poisoning herself.
Talking about her cancer, Zohaib Hassan said that Nazia had an ovary removed due to her ovarian cancer and had been in remission when she had returned to her husband. Soon afterward, she had developed throat cancer, which had puzzled both the family and the doctors.
Zohaib was also upset at the fact that Baig had created a fan page on social media, on which he shared his and Nazia’s private pictures, staking claim over them and trying to attain a fan following through his deceased wife’s fame.
He stated that marrying Nazia to Ishtiaq Baig had been the biggest mistake they had made.
In response to these claims, Ishtiaq Baig said that he would take Zohaib Hassan to court and sue him for 1 billion rupees for defamation and false allegations. In his own interview, he claimed that he had been Nazia’s husband till the day that she had passed away, denying Zohaib Hassan’s claims that they had gotten divorced prior to her death. Baig also stated that Nazia’s family had gotten a fake divorce certificate made on her behalf, claiming that he was still enlisted as her husband on her death certificate.
Baig stated that the problems in his marriage had begun when Nazia had stopped performing after their wedding which had angered Zohaib; the end of Nazia’s career had meant the end of Zohaib’s too.
Baig also revealed that Nazia’s father, Basir Hassan had asked him to give them £1 million in return for receiving his son, Arez Hassan’s custody.
People still remember Nazia Hassan as the queen of pop even after 21 years of her passing.
