Imran Khan: The government to build 10 dams to increase water storage capacity

Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Thursday (12 August) that the government has decided to construct 10 dams to increase the water storage capacity in the country. It would help to create more resources and secure future generations in the process.

The Prime Minister stated at the inauguration of the fifth extension project of Tarbela Dam that the two dams “The Mohmand and Bhasha’’ would be constructed by 2025 and 2028, respectively.

PM Imran khan added that Jacobabad has been noted to be the world’s hottest city and has the most elevated temperature.

Referring to Jacobabad’s example, the Prime Minister said that this was the reason behind why there was a requirement for creating power that doesn’t raise the current level of global warming.

According to the Prime Minister, The Tarbela Dam fifth extension project would help to create sustainable electricity. He said that by the year 2030, the most produced electricity would be clean electricity. 

PM Imran Khan added that our focus should be on creating sustainable power from water, wind, or solar resources and avoiding making these through consuming non-renewable energy sources.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister said that this step would also help broaden the Tarbela dam’s life as the venture will help flush out dregs and residue that is presently only four miles from the dam.

He added that for the same reason it is important to build Dasu and Bhasha dams on schedule.

The PM mourned that none of the past governments in past contemplated taking such initiatives. They signed limited payments contracts for costly power and it brought misfortunes for the country.

Imran Khan while talking about various reasons for success said that our nation could learn a lot from China due to china’s remarkable tendency to plan for 20 to 30 years ahead.

PM Imran Khan further said that the extension project would upgrade the dam’s power capacity limit by 1,530 megawatts, from 4,888 megawatts to 6,418 megawatts.

Prior to this, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib composed on Twitter that the extension project would be finished by 2024.

The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib said that there is also work being done on the other projects including the Sindh Barrage, Dasu Hydropower, Tangi Dam, Diamer Basha dam, Nai Gaj Dam, Mohmand Dam, Kurram, Kachhi Canal, K-IV water supply is at the highest.
