The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday released a schedule for holding fresh intra-party elections, following a legal battle that led to the party losing its election symbol last month.
The polls are scheduled to be held on March 3 (Sunday) as per the schedule issued by the PTI’s Federal Chief Election Commission.
The Supreme Court upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to declare the party’s internal polls as unconstitutional that forced the PTI candidates to contest the elections in independent capacity.
According to the schedule issued by the PTI, the party would invite nomination papers for PTI members on February 22. Members can file their nomination papers with the returning officers (RO) between 10 am to 3 pm on February 23 and 24.
The scrutiny of nomination forms will conclude by 3 pm on February 25 and the final list of panels/candidates will be issued by February 29.
The last day for withdrawing candidates/panels and the issuance of a revised list of panels is set for February 28.
Intra-party elections are scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm on March 3, with polling locations specified for different regions.
Election results will be declared by 8 pm on the same day, and a notification will be issued on March 4.
Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar Khan revealed that PTI Senator Ali Zafar will contest the intra-party polls for the chairman position, while Omar Ayub is set to contest for the party secretary-general position, as per the directives of Imran Khan.
