Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan Jemal Beker Abdula was called on Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti here at his office.
Both sides discussed matters of mutual interest including cooperation at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels in diverse areas such as security, counter-terrorism and immigration.
H.E. Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula briefed the minister about the striking similarities between the two countries at structural level and also highlighted the common challenges faced by both Ethiopia and Pakistan.
He emphasized on knowledge and experiences exchange between the two countries to counter the scourge of terrorism, illicit trade and smuggling. Ethiopia and Pakistan should work together closely in this regard, he added.
The ambassador highlighted the counter-terrorism activities being carried out by Ethiopia in the Horn of Africa to ensure peace and stability in the region saying his country looked forward to work with Pakistan in this regard.
Moreover, the ambassador briefed the minister on the economic progress in Ethiopia under the leadership of Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
On the other hand, the caretaker minister for Interior acknowledged the economic prosperity achieved by Ethiopia through reforms introduced by the current leadership.
He said Pakistan attached great importance to Africa and Ethiopia would play a critical role in connecting the country with African continent.
He said Pakistan was ready to exchange its knowledge and experiences with its brotherly country Ethiopia in different areas including counter terrorism.
The minister also appreciated the role being played by Ethiopia for ensuring peace and security not only in region but also across the globe.
