Manzoor Pashteen arrested for opening fire on police

FIR arrested in the case

Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) Leader Manzoor Pashteen found himself in another trouble as he was apprehended by the police in Chaman, Balochistan on Monday.

The arrest followed an altercation where security personnel, including police, Levies, and Frontier Corps (FC), were engaged in routine checks.

The situation escalated when armed individuals from Pashteen’s convoy allegedly refused to comply, opening fire on the law enforcement officers.

The deputy commissioner provided insight into the incident, stating that despite retaliation from the security forces, Pashteen, accompanied by the armed men, managed to evade capture, fleeing the scene.

In response to the incident, an FIR has been registered against Pashteen.

Confirming the event, PTM released a statement acknowledging that the incident occurred near Chaman Press Club.

Pashteen, on his way to Quetta after addressing a sit-in organized by the All Parties Tajir Mehnat Kash, encountered the gunfire.

The party disclosed that eight bullets were fired at Pashteen’s vehicle, resulting in the injury of a woman who is currently receiving medical attention.

Subsequently, Pashteen, along with his entourage, returned to Chaman and voluntarily surrendered to the authorities, according to a PTM spokesperson.

This arrest follows the detention of another prominent PTM leader, Ali Wazir, on August 20. Wazir, along with human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, faced allegations of “treason” based on a controversial speech against state institutions.

Despite their arrest, an Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted them bail on August 28 against surety bonds of Rs30,000 each.
