Imran Khan and Qureshi to be indicted again in cipher case

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said he wanted to call former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and a US diplomat as witnesses in the cipher case.

He was addressing reporters in an informal conversation after the proceedings at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Imran Khan is currently in Adiala for alleged corruption in Toshakhana and cipher case.

PTI lawyer Babar Awan also reiterated the same stance during a media talk after the proceedings of cipher case in Adiala jail.

In a media talk, Imran Khan clarified that he neither met with the “powers that be” nor engaged in any negotiations with them.

Imran Khan reiterated his belief that his party would be successful in the general elections scheduled for February 2024 in the country. He emphasized that PTI would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.

Expressing concerns over the situation, Imran Khan stated that he feard his opponents might flee the elections. He asserted his readiness to sacrifice even his life for the country.

Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi faced a special court hearing in the cipher case that the PTI believed is part of political victimization.

The cipher is a diplomatic cable which, the PTI, alleged contained a threat to Pakistan regarding removal of the then government during in 2022.

The hearing at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail continued for an hour. After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court divided the charges against the accused. During the hearing, Imran Khan consulted with his lawyers on various matters.

Due to the delay caused by Imran Khan’s lawyer, the court expressed surprise, to which Imran Khan’s lawyer, Usman Gul cited unavoidable circumstances.

It’s worth noting that a special court had previously indicted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on October 23 in connection with cipher’s case.

However, the other court had declared the jail trial of Imran Khan illegal.

Meanwhile, today the special court ruled that Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi would again be indicted on December 12 in cipher case.
