In response to a letter from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa affirmed his commitment to impartiality, stating that he would not succumb to pressure or favor any party.
The letter, received by CJP Isa’s office on Thursday, detailed concerns about alleged abductions, disappearances of PTI workers, and perceived political victimization.
CJP Isa’s Secretary, Dr. Mushtaq Muhammad Ahmed, issued a press release on Saturday, asserting that the Chief Justice was fully aware of his constitutional duties and would continue to uphold the integrity of his office.
The release emphasized CJP Isa’s dedication to fulfilling his responsibilities and remaining faithful to the oath of his office.
The press release noted the reception of a seven-page application on Friday, encapsulated in the format commonly used for Supreme Court filings. However, it highlighted a lack of information regarding the identity and contact details of the advocate who prepared the document, raising concerns about transparency.
“Misgivings also arise when the political party on whose behalf the document has ostensibly been sent is well represented by advocates. Only recently its advocates conducted two significant cases in the Supreme Court, on the military courts and on the elections,” the press release said, without identifying the advocates it was referring to.
The release expressed surprise at the contents of the document being distributed to the media before the sealed envelope had reached CJP Isa’s office.
