Solangi regrets President’s statement over level-playing field in elections

President should act as symbol of federation

Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi on Friday expressed his concern over the recent complaint made by President Dr. Arif Alvi regarding the absence of level-playing field for the all the political parties in the upcoming general elections.

In a formal communication addressed to Interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, President Arif Alvi the other day conveyed the concerns of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf regarding the absence of a level playing field for political parties in the run-up to the upcoming general elections, scheduled for February 8, 2024.

In a post on X formerly Twitter, the minister said the statements made by the President in the wake of the election seemed to be in conflict with his constitutional role.
He urged the President to allow the constitutional institutions, specifically the Election Commission, to perform their duties without interference.

“The whole nation desires that the President plays his role as the symbol of the federation,” the minsiter said while urging him to steer clear of any perception that aligned him with a specific political.

Highlighting the Election Commission’s dedication and meticulous approach in carrying out electoral process, Solangi said date for the elections had been announced and all political parties were allowed to engage in political activities within the established parameters of the constitution and the law.

Solangi, drawing a metaphorical comparison, noted that those who advocated for a level playing field were among those who created chaos and even abandoned the election in the past.

He expressed hope that President Alvi would prioritize his role as the head of state over any partisan affiliations, allowing the democratic process to unfold transparently and fairly for all political entities.
