Imran Khan from jail slams justice system amid Nawaz Sharif’s Return

Sharif returned under 'London Agreement'

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has condemned the recent developments surrounding the return of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif.

Khan, currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, labeled Sharif’s return as the execution of a clandestine “London agreement” and criticized the leniency shown to his political rival.

Sharif, a three-time former prime minister, recently returned to Pakistan after four years of self-imposed exile in London. He was granted protective bail in two graft cases, and arrest warrants in another case were suspended, facilitating his smooth return.

In a statement released from Adiala Jail, Khan expressed his dismay saying “my Pakistanis! in the last few days, we have witnessed a total mockery of the law. What we are witnessing is not just an execution of a London ‘plan’ but a London ‘agreement’ that was signed between a cowardly fugitive and corrupt criminal and his facilitators.”

Khan further accused the system of collapsing under the weight of political influence, stating, “The only way a convicted criminal could be allowed to return to politics with a clean chit is by destroying state institutions. And hence, what we are witnessing is a complete collapse of our justice system.”

Addressing his own legal battles, Khan asserted that the cases against him were politically motivated, designed to keep him in jail until after the elections.

Despite his predicament, Khan urged the people to continue their struggle and announced that PTI leadership had been advised to start campaigning for upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) restored Nawaz Sharif’s appeals against conviction verdicts in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases. The move revived Sharif’s wish to get the sentences handed down to him in the graft cases nullified.
