Pakistan sends aid for the people of Palestine as an aircraft carrying 100 tons of supplies left Islamabad for Egypt earlier in the day.
The aid including medicine, tents, and blankets will be transferred to the people of Gaza from Egypt, said an official news statement.
The move comes in response to the escalating crisis, with at least 3,785 Palestinians reportedly killed in Gaza due to Israeli strikes since October 7, as confirmed by the Gaza health ministry.
Pakistan’s initiative aims to provide immediate relief to those affected by the conflict, demonstrating international solidarity in the face of the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for urgent and unrestricted humanitarian access to the besieged Gaza Strip on Thursday, as Israel continued its retaliatory actions following attacks by Hamas.
Guterres emphasized the immediate need for essential supplies such as food, water, medicine, and fuel to reach the 2.4 million people in Gaza. Speaking in Cairo, he stressed the necessity for aid to be delivered at scale and sustained, highlighting the critical role of humanitarian efforts in the region.
“In plain terms, that means humanitarians need to be able to get aid in and they need to be able to distribute it safely,” Guterres stated, underlining the imperative nature of unimpeded aid delivery amidst the ongoing crisis.
Additionally, Guterres urged both Hamas and Israel to adhere to international law, emphasizing the protection of civilians and condemning any attacks on hospitals, schools, or UN premises.
He called on Hamas for the immediate and unconditional release of hostages and urged Israel to allow immediate and unrestricted access for humanitarian aid.
