India is continued to dominate the ICC World Cup with its strong batting line up and sheer pace stock that once again helped her to achieve a convincing victory over Bangladesh on Thursday.
Virat Kohli’s exceptional unbeaten century led India to beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in a thrilling match held in Pune.
Opting to bat first, Bangladesh appeared promising with an opening partnership of 93 runs between Tanzid Hasan and Liton Das. However, the Indian spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, triggered a top-order collapse that restricted Bangladesh to 256-8.
Tanzid Hasan’s maiden ODI fifty and contributions from Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah bolstered their total, but it was evident that the absence of regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan due to injury had affected their performance.
In response, India’s opening pair, led by skipper Rohit Sharma’s aggressive 48 and Shubman Gill’s composed 53, set the stage for Virat Kohli’s remarkable innings. Kohli, displaying his masterful skills, reached his century in style with a six against spinner Nasum Ahmed, securing India’s win with more than eight overs to spare. Kohli’s century, his third in four innings, included six fours and four sixes, solidifying his reputation as one of the world’s premier batsmen.
Rohit Sharma’s intent was evident from the outset, with a commanding boundary off the second ball. Despite his departure, Kohli took charge, unleashing a series of boundaries, including a sublime straight six, showcasing his dominance over the Bangladesh bowlers.
While India faced a setback with Hardik Pandya’s injury, Kohli, remarkably, contributed not only as a batsman but also as a bowler, completing Pandya’s over and showcasing his versatility on the field.
Bangladesh, facing their third defeat in four matches, now finds themselves with a daunting task to qualify for the semi-finals. The team’s bowling attack struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, ultimately leading to their downfall.
With this victory, India continues their unbeaten streak in the tournament, establishing themselves as strong contenders for the coveted title.
