The Pakistan Railways on Sunday contradicted reports circulating in some sections of media regarding major injuries in a train collision incident that occurred in Punjab’s Sheikhupura.
Early this morning at 4:50 am, the Mianwali Express, en route to Lahore, collided with another train that was parked on the same line at the Qila Sattar Shah station.
Railways spokesperson Babar Ali told the media that all passengers on board the Mianwali Express remained safe during the accident.
Contrary to earlier reports of 31 or 21 injured persons, Ali firmly stated that such claims were based on falsehoods.
Ali further confirmed that the railway track was cleared by 7:30 am, and the Mianwali Express resumed its journey to Lahore.
In response to the incident, both the train driver, Imran Sarwar, and assistant driver, Muhammad Bilal, have been suspended from duty due to negligence.
Additionally, an inquiry committee has been established on the orders of the Ministry of Railways to investigate the matter. This committee has been instructed to deliver a comprehensive report within 24 hours.
Railways Chairman Mazhar Ali Shah assured that appropriate legal actions would be taken against those found responsible, while CEO Shahid Aziz emphasized that safety remains a top priority with no compromises.
It worth mentioning here that since morning different media outlets had been reporting that some 31 passengers onboard the train were injured in the accident.
