LHC extends deadline for recovery of missing anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan

Good news expected in next two weeks

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday granted yet another extension for the recovery of missing anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan.
Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti presided over the hearing of a plea filed by the anchorperson’s father.
The plea sought recovery of Imran Riaz who has been missing since his arrest on May 11, 2023, at Sialkot Airport.
During the hearing, the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) reported that progress has been made towards locating the missing anchorperson.
He expressed optimism, stating that “good news” could be expected within the next 10 to 15 days, and requested more time to produce Khan.
However, the court expressed its concern about the repeated requests for extensions and emphasized the need for concrete progress in the case.
In response to the situation, the Lahore High Court granted an additional extension of six days. Furthermore, the court directed the Punjab IGP to meet with Khan’s father and legal team at 5 pm on the same day to discuss the case further.
It’s worth noting that earlier deadlines, including July 25, had been set by the court for the authorities to produce the missing anchorperson. However, no hearing took place on the specified date.. These previous deadlines were extensions from even earlier dates in May, specifically May 22 and May 30.
The Lahore High Court has consistently directed all law enforcement and intelligence agencies to collaborate in their efforts to ensure the safe recovery of Imran Riaz Khan.
The missing anchorperson is known for his strong support of the ousted premier and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairperson, Imran Khan, and his policies.
Khan was reportedly arrested on May 11, 2023, in the aftermath of riots that occurred on May 9. The whereabouts of Imran Riaz Khan have remained undisclosed since his arrest.
