‘C-class jail facilities’ provided to Imran Khan: Lawyer

Imran Khan's morale is remarkably high

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s lawyer, Naeem Haider Panjotha, made shocking claims on Monday regarding his client’s detention at Attock Jail.
Imran Khan, who was recently found guilty of “corrupt practices” by an Islamabad trial court and sentenced to three years in prison, is allegedly being subjected to distressing conditions and provided only “C-Class jail facilities”, said his lawyer while talking to the media.
Panjotha disclosed that during his meeting with the imprisoned PTI chief, Imran described the appalling conditions in which he was being held.
According to Panjotha’s account, Imran was confined to a dark, small, and dismal C-Class cell, with an open washroom lacking basic amenities like a shower.
The room reportedly swarms with flies in the morning and insects in the evening, creating a nightmarish atmosphere for the beleaguered politician.
Despite the subpar living conditions, Imran claimed to be resilient and undeterred.
He revealed that he was being served the typical daal and saag diet, but surprisingly, he seemed to have no complaints about it.
In fact, Imran expressed his preparedness to endure even worse conditions if he were moved to a D-Class jail.
The PTI chairman also alleged that his residence in Zaman Park had been attacked three times, and his bedroom door had been targeted in a suspected attempt to apprehend him. In response to these incidents, Imran urged his legal team to take legal action against the perpetrators.
Moreover, Panjotha lamented that Imran was being denied the right to meet or communicate with anyone else, making him the sole individual to have met the imprisoned leader since his arrest.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Imran’s resolve remained unshaken, his lawyer remarked.
He conveyed his determination to his lawyer that he would never succumb to the shackles of slavery and vowed to fight against it relentlessly.
“Even in such trying times, Imran’s morale remains remarkably high,” the lawyer asserted.
The lawyer also raised concerns about Imran’s health, stating that his client was wearing trousers, a t-shirt, and joggers during their meeting. He added that the lack of doors or walls in the open washroom allowed rainwater to seep into Imran’s cell.
Imran’s legal team has filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court, urging the court to declare his detention in Attock Jail as “illegal” and demanding his relocation to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The petition names various authorities as respondents in the case.
