TikTok removes millions of videos in Pakistan during Q1 2023

A slight decline came in content removal compared to Q4 2022

In the first quarter of 2023 (January-March), TikTok, the popular short-video platform, removed a staggering 11,707,020 videos from its platform in Pakistan for violating Community Guidelines.
This significant removal is part of TikTok’s ongoing efforts to combat misinformation and create a safe and inclusive space for its users, according to its latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.
The report reveals that the number of removed videos in Pakistan during Q1 2023 is slightly lower than the previous quarter, where 12,628,267 videos were taken down in Q4 2022. This decline indicates TikTok’s commitment to enforcing its guidelines and maintaining a safer environment for its community.
Impressively, during the first quarter, 83% of violative videos were removed in Pakistan even before they could reach any viewer. Moreover, approximately 92.2% of such videos were eliminated within a day, showcasing TikTok’s dedication to quick and proactive action.
The proactive removal rate for Q1 2023 reached an impressive 98.8%, demonstrating the platform’s effectiveness in identifying and dealing with content that violates its policies.
Globally, TikTok removed a total of 91,003,510 videos during the same period, constituting about 0.6% of all videos uploaded to the platform. Of these, 53,494,911 videos were removed using automated systems, while 6,209,835 videos were restored after human review.
TikTok’s focus on user safety is further evident in its efforts to safeguard young users. During Q1 2023, the platform removed a staggering 16,947,484 accounts suspected to belong to users under the age of 13. Additionally, 51,298,135 fake accounts were removed during the same quarter, demonstrating TikTok’s commitment to counter fraudulent activity.
In addition to addressing Community Guidelines violations, TikTok proactively targeted spam accounts and associated content to curb the creation of automated spam accounts. This multi-faceted approach aims to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all users.
