Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said so far no decision had been taken on name of interim prime minister, but assured that the caretaker government would hold within 60 to 90 days in accordance with the Constitution.
In an interview with a private TV channel, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif whatever legal options the caretaker government chose, elections would be held accordingly, but not beyond 90 days.
His statement followed announcement from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who while addressing the nation the other day categorically stated that he would leave the office in August.
PM Shehbaz had made a similar announcement a day before yesterday as well, in which he declared that the term of his government would end next month.
However, he did not clear the confusion about whether the coalition partners would go for the normal dissolution of the National Assembly on completion of its term on August 12, or he would advise the president for an early dissolution.
Khawaja Asif told a private channel that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman had received more relief from the judiciary than anyone else.
“When relief is given like a blank check, questions are raised,” he added.
The minister accused the PTI chairman of pursing Israel’s agenda saying the latter was concerned that its agenda was being hindered in Pakistan.
