Pervez Khattak, former president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, has had his basic party membership terminated after failing to respond to a show-cause notice.
The notice was issued to Khattak, seeking an explanation for allegedly inciting members to leave the party.
The PTI shared the termination letter on Twitter, stating that Khattak had not provided a satisfactory reply within the stipulated time frame regarding the allegations of contacting party members and encouraging them to leave.
The termination came into effect immediately.
The show-cause notice, issued by PTI’s secretary general Omar Ayub Khan, was served to Khattak on June 21, with a requirement to respond within seven days.
The notice warned of further action if an unsatisfactory reply or no response was received, in accordance with the party’s policy and rules.
Khattak, who previously led the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2013 to 2018 and later served as the defence minister in the party’s federal government, was appointed as the provincial president after the ouster of the government.
Earlier this year, Khattak had resigned from his party position during a press conference in response to the crackdown on PTI following the violent protest on May 9 following Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest.
Recent reports indicated that the former chief minister had held meetings with ex-PTI lawmakers, including MPAs and MNAs, as well as other prominent figures, in an attempt to persuade them to leave the party.
