The government on Thursday released Pakistan Economic Survey 2022-23 which among other things highlighted a steady growth in in population of donkeys.
The country’s donkey population witnessed an increase of 100,000 during the fiscal year 2022-23 reaching to 5.8 million.
According to survey, it was recorded 5.7 million in the previous fiscal year.
In addition to donkeys, the survey also highlighted growth in other livestock populations. The number of buffaloes increased by 1.3 million, reaching to 45 million as compared to 43.7 million in the last fiscal year.
Sheep numbers also saw a positive trend, with an increase of 400,000, totaling 32.3 million during the ongoing fiscal year.
Furthermore, the goat population witnessed growth, rising by 2.2 million to reach 84.7 million in the fiscal year 2022-23, up from 82.5 million in the previous fiscal year.
However, the numbers for other livestock remained unchanged. The horse population remained at 400,000, while mules and camels maintained their figures at 200,000 and 1.1 million, respectively, during the current fiscal year.
