Pervez Khattak resigns from party position, citing consultation with friends

Asad Qaiser also appeared in camera briefly but made no statement

Pervez Khattak, the president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, announced his decision to step down from his party position.
In a recent video statement, Khattak stated that he had carefully considered the matter after consulting with friends, leading him to conclude that he should resign. He further mentioned that he would determine the future course of action after seeking the advice of additional “friends and party workers.”
During the video, another prominent PTI leader, Asad Qaiser, briefly appeared but did not address the camera or provide any statements. This came shortly after PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub alleged in a tweet that both Khattak and Qaiser had been detained.
Ayub claimed that the two party members were enticed under the pretense of a meeting for negotiations but were instead taken into custody.
Khattak’s decision to step down follows his evaluation of the ongoing “propaganda” aired on television, which he deemed as inappropriate. His resignation marks a significant development within the PTI, as he held a prominent leadership position within the party’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter.
In response to the allegations, the PTI chairman supported Ayub’s claims, asserting that a meeting with Khattak and Qaiser before illegally detaining them was arranged in a secure location. The chairman further suggested that their release was conditional to their departure from PTI.
As of now, the future plans of both Pervez Khattak and Asad Qaiser remain unclear.
During a recent appearance on Geo News program ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath,’ Mahmood Baqi Moulvi addressed reports concerning his and other former PTI members’ meeting with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is currently incarcerated.
Moulvi stated that clarity regarding the meeting and its outcomes would be forthcoming within the next two to three days.
When questioned about reports suggesting that Qureshi had “rejected their offer” during the meeting, Moulvi responded cautiously, refraining from providing a direct comment.
He regarded the reports as speculative and emphasized the need to wait for an official clarification. Moulvi explained that confirming or denying the reports without concrete information could potentially lead to misunderstandings and further complications.
Moulvi expressed his belief that within the next two to three days, the truth regarding the meeting and the accuracy of the reports would become evident. By allowing sufficient time for verification and confirmation, Moulvi aimed to ensure a more accurate understanding of the situation.
