Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Leader Sayed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari on Tuesday lashed out at the incumbent government for what he described as “fascism” against the party’s female workers.
Sharing a video of female workers of the PTI whose faces were covered with shopping bags during their hearing in a court, he said the “fascists” rulers had humiliated the entire country by “parading the PTI female workers in bags”
“This will stay in our history as a black mark,” he added.
This will stay in our history as a black mark when the fascists paraded our women in bags and humiliated the entire country. “Sad state of affairs in Pakistan where not only the economy but rule of law and democracy have eroded,” he said while referring to re-arrest of the PTI leaders including Ali Muhammad Khan and Shehryar Afridi after the court had issued their release orders.
Earlier in the evening Shehryar Afridi and Ali Muhammad Khan were released from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
Shehryar Afridi, along with his wife, was apprehended on May 16 from their residence in Islamabad under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance 1960. This section empowers the government to detain individuals who are deemed to be acting in a manner that poses a threat to public safety. However, his wife was subsequently released based on an order from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Following his release from Adiala Jail, Afridi was once again taken into custody by the police and transported to an undisclosed location. The jail administration confirmed that Afridi had been released upon the completion of his designated “house arrest” period under the MPO. The Rawalpindi deputy commissioner extended Afridi’s house arrest under the MPO for an additional 15 days.
Similarly, Ali Muhammad Khan was arrested in Islamabad on May 21 by the Islamabad police, also under Section 3 of the MPO. However, he was released from custody earlier today based on an order from the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
However, Khan’s freedom was short-lived, as he was apprehended once again earlier today by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police outside the Adiala Jail, according to a statement from the Islamabad police. He was arrested under Section 3 of the MPO.
