Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday condemning vandalism and ransacking of civil properties and defense installations that took place on May 9-10 expressed his determination to take strict action against the attackers, abettors, and planners in accordance with the relevant laws.
In a meeting with leaders of various political parties held at Governor House Peshawar, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused Imran Niazi of orchestrating the violent acts, stating that hoards of individuals were mobilized under his orders, leading to significant damage to both civil and defense infrastructure.
He highlighted that Radio Pakistan Peshawar’s building, which played a historic role in the announcement of Pakistan’s independence on May 14, 1947, was tragically burnt down by the rioters on May 10.
The destruction of the national broadcaster’s historical archives was described by the Prime Minister as a tremendous loss.
He further emphasized that the events of May 9 marked a dark day in the nation’s history, as political protests had never before resulted in attacks on military installations during the past 75 years.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asserted that those responsible for the May 9-10 incidents deserved no leniency, and stringent action would be taken against them in accordance with the applicable anti-terrorism laws.
He announced that individuals involved in attacks on defense installations would be dealt with relevant laws, while cases pertaining to the ransacking of public and civil properties would be handled under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Implementation of these decisions has already commenced, the Prime Minister stated, ensuring that all individuals found guilty would face appropriate punishment.
The government’s commitment to upholding law and order and protecting the nation’s assets remains unwavering in the face of such acts of violence and destruction.
