In a series of major setbacks for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), several key members have announced their resignation and departure from the party.
Fawad Chaudhry, the PTI’s senior vice president and spokesperson, revealed on Wednesday that he was parting ways with former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
He took to Twitter to announce his resignation from his party position and expressed his decision to take a break from politics.
Yesterday, Shireen Mazari, the former human rights minister, also quit the PTI and declared her retirement from active politics, citing personal reasons. Her departure was closely followed by Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, a former provincial minister and PTI spokesperson, who left the party. Chohan explained that he could not imagine speaking against the army, leading to his decision to leave the PTI.
Adding to the party’s woes, Asad Umar, a senior PTI leader, announced his immediate withdrawal from his party positions. Umar stated that the events of May 9 had made it impossible for him to continue holding leadership positions within the PTI. Consequently, he resigned as the party’s secretary-general and also relinquished his membership in the party’s core committee.
Addressing speculation, Asad Umar clarified that his decision to resign was not influenced by external pressure. He emphasized that it was a personal choice and he had resigned from his party office independently.
These successive resignations of prominent PTI members have dealt a significant blow to the party’s image and stability. The departures of Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari, Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, and Asad Umar underscore growing discontent and internal divisions within the PTI. The loss of these influential figures has left the party facing substantial challenges as it navigates its future path.
In a response to the recent resignations within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), party chief Imran Khan has expressed his belief that these departures would not lead to the elimination of the PTI. On the contrary, he believed that such incidents of opposition and suppression would only serve to increase the party’s popularity.
Imran Khan confidently stated, “I can say this with confidence that whenever I distribute the PTI tickets and whoever I give them to… they will win.” His remarks indicate his unwavering faith in the strength and resilience of the PTI despite the challenges it currently faces.
With this statement, Imran Khan aims to convey that the PTI remains a formidable political force capable of achieving success in elections. Despite the resignations and internal divisions, he remains optimistic about the party’s prospects and maintains confidence in the abilities of the individuals receiving PTI tickets.
Imran Khan’s assertion reflects his determination to overcome the setbacks faced by the PTI and highlights his belief in the enduring support the party enjoys among the electorate. He remains steadfast in his commitment to the PTI’s mission and vision, emphasizing that the party would continue to forge ahead despite the recent upheavals.
