Wife Of Mir Khalil-Ur-Rahman Passes Away At 95

Mehmooda Khalil-ur-Rahman, the wife of the late Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman, founder of the Jang and Geo group, passed away today (1st October) in Karachi at the age of 95.

Today, after Friday prayers, her funeral prayers were offered in Karachi. Funeral prayers were said at the Rahmania mosque on Tariq Road. The burial was attended by relatives, leading journalists, media figures, politicians, and notable figures from the social and literary worlds.

Mehmooda was the grandmother of Geo Television Network CEO Mir Ibrahim Rahman and the mother of Jang and Geo Editor-in-Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman. Mrs. Rahman left behind her son, four daughters, 24 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Considering the COVID-19 circumstance, the deceased’s family has asked that people pray for her from home.

Condolences pour in

Following the devastating news, a number of leaders expressed their sympathies to the Rahman family.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said: ” My prayers & condolences go to the Mir family on the passing of Mir Shakil ur Rehman’s mother and Mir Ibrahim’s grandmother.”

President Dr. Arif Ali wrote on Twitter: “I would like to offer my condolences on the demise of Begum Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman.”

Furthermore, he said “She was a dignified woman who, like her husband had a special place in her heart for me and my family. The late Mir Sahib was also very humble and possessed a big heart.”

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said, “The demise of Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman’s wife and Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman’s mother, the founder of the Jang Group, has been a source of great sorrow and grief.”

Federal Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed said, “Expressing grief over the demise of Mehmooda Rehman, wife of late Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman, founder of Jang Group.”

Special Assistant to Prime Minister of Pakistan on Political Communication Dr. Shahbaz Gill said, “The death of the wife of the late Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman, the founder of the Jang Group, and the mother of Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman is deeply saddening. May Allah forgive her and raise her ranks. Give patience to the bereaved.”

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb also prayed for the soul of the deceased.

Former Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Punjab for Information Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior Mirza Shahzad Akhbar also expressed condolences to the deceased’s family.
