Boris Johnson Highlighted Imran Khan’s 10-Billion-Trees Project At The United Nations

In a speech on Wednesday (22 September) British Prime Minister while talking to the leaders of the United Nations told everyone to “grow up” and address climate change. The Prime Minister gave the example of his Pakistani counterpart, Imran Khan, and called for the planting of 10 billion trees.

In an address to the United Nations General Assembly, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that it was now or never for the world to accomplish its objective of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

Boris Johnson is to host one of the major summits of the United Nations climate in Glasgow, Scotland, in the coming six weeks. The Prime Minister is using his visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York to encourage governments for tougher emissions-cutting targets and more funding to assist developing countries in cleaning up their economies.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister directed everyone towards a call for action which included:

  • The rise of temperature is to be restrained till 1.5 degrees.
  • Carbon neutrality is a collective goal which should amount to zero net by the middle of the century.
  • All governments must step up and commit to significant carbon reductions by 2030, focusing on coal, vehicles, cash, and trees.
  • The developing countries will phase out coal power by 2040, whereas the developed world will do so by 2030.
  • China should phase out the use of coal in a domestic way.
  • Emissions which have only zero emissions should be sold across the world by 2040.
  • Every country should cut out the use of carbon by 68%.
  • It should be noted that by 2030, the loss of trees and biodiversity should be reversed and prevented.
  • Everyone should follow the example of Prime Minister Imran Khan of planting 10 billion trees.
  • Governments must collaborate with financial organizations such as the IMF and World Bank to leverage trillions of dollars in the private sector.

Johnson closed his speech by pleading with world leaders to do the right thing for future generations.
