Russian President Vladimir Putin called Imran Khan

Prime Minister Imran Khan received a telephone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday (14 September). According to the handout of the Prime Minister’s office, Both the leaders talked and discussed the ongoing situation in Afghanistan.

This phone call marks the second phone call of the Russian President to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, held in less than three weeks of the first phone call. The Russian President called Imran Khan for the first time on August 25. The two leaders, while recalling their first phone call exchanged their views on the latest developments in Afghanistan.

Putin and Imran Khan also talked about bilateral cooperation along with collaboration in accordance with the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). During the talk, the prime minister emphasized the importance of Afghanistan’s peace and stability for regional security and prosperity.

He stressed the importance of providing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan as well as averting an economic collapse. He emphasized the need for the international community to remain engaged in Afghanistan, emphasizing that the Afghan people should not be left alone at this critical juncture.

The Prime Minister, in the bilateral context, highlighted the expanding collaboration across a variety of areas, including commerce, investment, and energy, and underlined Pakistan’s determination to further improve the entire partnership.

He stated that the cornerstone of Pakistan’s engagement with Russia was to develop trade, investment, and energy cooperation. He stressed the government’s commitment to completing the Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline Project as soon as possible.

According to a statement by the Prime Minister’s office, “Relations between Pakistan and Russia have been on an upward trajectory, propelled by converging views on important regional and international issues, growing trust, and increasing bilateral cooperation manifested by recent high-level interactions.”

The prime minister invited the Russian president to visit Pakistan once more. Putin also extended an offer to Imran to pay a visit to Moscow. The two leaders also pledged to keep in touch.
