Cantonment Board Elections: PTI emerges as the largest party

The elections of the cantonment Boards have revealed that PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaaf) has emerged as the largest party with 58 seats across Pakistan.

The result of the Cantonment board elections for all parties are as follows:

  • Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) managed to secure 51 seats followed by 49 independent candidates.
  • The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) won 14 seats.
  • The Mutahidda Quaumi Movement (MQM) got 10 seats.
  • Jamaat-e-Islami has also won five seats.
  • Balochistan Awami Party secured two seats.

The polls in the 42 cantonal councils of the country finished on Sunday and there are reports which state that fights broke out between volunteers from different political groups.

The voting process in the cantonment board elections went on from 8:00 am till 5:00 pm. In the 206 general elections, there are at least 1 560 applicants, while in 1,644 voting stations more than 5,000 polling booths are established. The 42 cantonment boards have a total of 2,197,441 voters, of whom 1,154,551 men and 1,043,190 are women.

It is expected that the ruling PTI will contest among PML-N and PPP.

Elections

The polls are contested by at least 684 independent candidates and 876 from various political parties. The ruling PTI has fielded 183 candidates while:

  • PML-N 144.
  • PPP 113.
  • JI 104.
  • TLP 83.
  • MQM-P 42.
  • PSP 35.
  • PML-Q 34.
  • JUI-F 25.

In the meantime, 7 candidates, including two from Multan and Attock, have been elected so far.

Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar also tweeted and said, “Cantonment elections once again show  PTI not only as the largest party but also the only national party.”

Fake polling agents

The Returning Officer detained two false polling agents in Karachi’s Clifton district. The suspects were apprehended in Wards 2 and 4. Both individuals were found inside a women’s polling station without any legal or legitimate identification.

The fake polling agents have been handed over to the Police.

Clash

The workers of the political parties, during the cantonment board elections, also clashed with each other in Multan. According to the reports, the independent candidates along with the workers of PTI clashed in ward no 4 with each other, however, it is to note that both the parties did not receive any serious injuries.
