Noor Mukadam murder case: Official trial begins today

Wednesday, 8th September
The official trial regarding the Noor Mukadam case is to begin today.

On 6th September

The father of Zahir Jaffer, the alleged murderer, requested bail in the Islamabad High Court once again.

During a hearing on Monday, Zakir Jaffer also informed the court that he had changed his lawyer and had now hired Advocate Khawaja Haris.

Zahir Jaffer, Zakir Jaffer, and Asmat Adamjee, along with their house help, were presented in Islamabad’s court for a hearing, all together for the first time. During this hearing, the police’s challan was put forward, according to which the police investigation had found Zahir Jaffer guilty of the murder of Noor Mukadam.

As media personnel surrounded the accused and his alleged accomplices, Asmat Adamjee seemed to be annoyed by the coverage. She kept her face covered with a file and, as she neared the journalists and individuals making videos, she tried to cover their cameras and shouted at them to move away. The police made no move to quieten her down and seemed completely unbothered by her frenzied demeanor against the media, who had every right to film the process.

As they entered the courtroom, the media personnel followed which made Zahir Jaffer throw a tantrum to get the press out of there as they were “invading their privacy.”

The press was removed, except for 3 people and when they questioned the police as to why they couldn’t remain inside as it was an open case, the police had no answer or reasoning.

Earlier on 4th September

The CEO of Therapy Works, Tahir Zahoor, held a press conference with his lawyers and fellow workers. In that, he made many shocking revelations and attempted to clarify his side and justify his stance.

To initiate the press conference, he stated that their team had 3 lawyers and they were and would remain, neutral throughout the proceedings of the case.

Furthermore, he stated that Zahir Jaffer was not mentally unstable or ‘mad’, rather he was an alcoholic and that he had personally advised the parents, Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, to get their son admitted to the institute but they hadn’t listened.

On 20th July, Tahir Zahoor began to continuously get calls from Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee. When he didn’t respond, they began to call different members of Therapy Works, trying to get in touch with Tahir. When they finally managed to reach him, they asked him to send his intervention team to their home where Zahir was at the time. When asked what the problem was, the parents simply said that Zahir was “very angry, violent and unmanageable”.

Tahir Zahoor also stated that he had specifically asked Zakir Jaffer whether or not Zahir Jaffer had any weapon in his possession, to which he said an absolute no.

During the press conference, a male nurse Amjad, who had been a part of the intervention team put forward his account; he stated that when he entered into Zahir Jaffer’s room through the window, Zahir Jaffer put a gun to his head and fired, however, the gun didn’t work. He tried twice more but the bullet seemed to be stuck, after which he hit Amjad’s head with the butt of the gun. During the struggle, the gun fell and Zahir picked up a knife; he stabbed Amjad in the neck and then in the stomach, leaving him in a critical condition. Amjad said that he yelled out to his fellow workers, asking them to come up and that Zahir was going to kill him.

Waaris, the doctor who accompanied the intervention team, rushed upstairs and stated that as soon as he saw the dead body, he also went out to the terrace and yelled to his colleagues to call the police as this was not a medical intervention anymore, it was a crime scene.

Tahir Zahoor also said that when he had called Zahir Jaffer’s parents to inform them of the murder, they did not seem surprised or taken aback; their reaction was subdued and oddly calm.

Tahir Zahoor also let slip his opinion, saying that the police were manipulating things, which was affecting the proceedings of the case.
