PM inaugurates Ehsaas Educational Scholarship Program

Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the Ehsaas Educational Scholarship Programme on Wednesday, August 1 as an initiative to bring 20 million out-of-school children back to school. He addressed the public and highlighted the importance of educated people for the success and development of the state.

This program will focus on providing financial assistance to deserving families in order to incentivize them to send their children to school and to decrease the number of annual school dropouts.

Under the program, Rs1,500 for primary school boys and Rs 2,000 for girls will be given on a quarterly basis. Secondary school boys will get Rs 2,500 and girls Rs 3,000, while higher secondary boys will get Rs 3,500 and girls Rs 4,000 quarterly.

The scholarships will be given through biometrics to mothers of children with 70 percent school attendance. The program will be launched in 160 districts and the stipend provided to female students will be greater than the one provided to men in order to motivate them to continue their education.

PM also chaired a meeting related to the progress of higher education in Pakistan which was attended by Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Planning Minister Asad Umar, Special Assistant Dr. Shahbaz Gill, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, and other senior officials. It was decided that Higher Education Commission will spend Rs 42 billion on 168 projects to promote higher education.

The PM guided the concerned specialists to finish the assigned tasks for the advancement of higher education at a faster rate. He likewise provided guidance to audit the Higher Education Commission’s scholarship programs to guarantee proficient usage of public assets. He advised the officials to guarantee excellent schooling in the remote areas and to set up a framework to utilize the monetary assets given by the Federation.
