Recently, news came forward that Dr. Aafia Siddiqui had been assaulted by her fellow inmate in Texas prison on July 30th, put forward in a statement by the FO spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry. He further stated that a formal complaint had been lodged with the relevant US authorities to investigate the matter, as it was imperative to ensure her safety and well-being.
According to the statement, an inmate who had been previously harassing Aafia had smashed a coffee mug filled with scorching hot liquid on her face.
Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez said that Aafia was alright and had only suffered from minor injuries due to the assault, however, Aafia’s personal statement was, “The fact that I am not blind is a miracle of Allah.”
Marwa Elbially of Elbially Law Office stated, “During my last visit with Dr. Siddiqui I was shocked to see visible burns around her eyes, an approximately 3-inch scar near her left eye, a wound on her right cheek covered in toothpaste, and a small piece of paper, and bruises on her right arm and legs… It is important that we receive assurance that Dr. Siddiqui is not punished for being a victim of a vicious assault and is safe from future attacks.”
Aafia had to be taken out of the prison cell in a wheelchair because she was unable to get up or move.
In 2008, MIT graduate and Ph.D. holder, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was arrested in the US, based on a total of 7 charges, which had resulted in an 86-year-long imprisonment sentence, the focal one being her alleged shooting at members of the US army and the FBI in Afghanistan.
In this incident, the army officers were not injured; on the other hand, Aafia had suffered from bullet wounds and was in a critical condition before being flown out to the Bagram airfield, where surgeons had to perform surgery to extract the bullets from her body.
A controversy since the beginning, the Aafia Siddiqui case has baffled many; so numerous questions were raised regarding each segment of her life and what the truth actually was.
Why was Aafia Siddiqui claimed to be Lady Al-Qaeda? Where did Aafia Siddiqui disappear to for 5 years between 2003-2008? Was she taken by the American, the Afghan, or the Pakistani government? Where are Aafia’s 3 children? How did Aafia Siddiqui become the FBI’s most wanted woman?
Why was Aafia Siddiqui really arrested?
