Multan Sultans owner Alamgir Khan Tareen passes away

Preliminary reports suggest it was a suicide

Alamgir Khan Tareen, the owner of the Multan Sultans cricket team in the Pakistan Super League, has tragically passed away in Lahore.
The franchise announced his death and expressed their deep sadness in a tweet.
Tareen was the brother of Jahangir Tareen, the leader of the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP).
According to the police officials, Alamgir allegedly shot himself.
The authorities had taken possession of the weapon and cordoned off Alamgir’s residence in the Gulberg area.
While the investigation is ongoing, the police have not yet determined the cause of the alleged suicide.
Alamgir Khan Tareen was well-known in South Punjab as a prominent businessman. He served as the Managing Director of Shamim and Company (Pvt) Ltd, which is franchise of PepsiCo for South Punjab.
He held this position since 1990. Tareen obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and later completed his master’s degree at Yale University.
Described as a sports enthusiast and a strong believer in the role of sports in community development, Tareen aimed to establish a robust platform for aspiring athletes.
He sought to provide them with the best possible resources to enhance their skills. Tareen was also credited with promoting the data-based approach followed by the Multan Sultans franchise.
Following the news of his passing, condolences poured in on social media. Cricket commentator Zainab Abbas expressed her sympathy for the entire family and remembered Alamgir as a joyful person who brought smiles to those around him.
Various journalists and organizations, including Grassroots Cricket and Islamabad United’s owner Ali Naqvi, also conveyed their condolences. Lahore Qalandars acknowledged the significant loss felt by the cricket community and wished peace for Tareen’s departed soul, while offering strength and solace to his loved ones.
